Terra Firma Builders creates rammed earth homes and buildings that blend seamlessly with your modern, healthy lifestyle in a community that inspires you. Working with you to build your ideas into your design, you may choose curved walls, rounded archways, arch top windows and deeply inset window seats. Imagine niches in the walls for artwork, niches for lighting and even niches for shampoo and soap in the shower. Imagine hydronically-heated earth seats or pocket doors that slide into solid earth walls.

Walls can also be straight and simple. There's strength in the massive two-foot walls that doesn't need any design additions. This option may appeal to those on a budget.

The choices of shapes, colours and textures that can be added to earth walls are limited only by your imagination. Add materials into the ram mix, such as coloured iron oxides, crushed brick or crushed oyster shells. Inset abalone, marble, fossils or geodes into the walls. You can determine the look and feel of each wall.

You might not want to add anything to the earth walls. Some of our clients have chosen to keep their walls unadorned and without oxides. The natural colour of earth has its own beauty. It's a direct answer to our modern world where everything pretends to be something else. It's also possible to plaster over the walls. Rammed earth home design doesn't have to be earthy.

Art can become an integral part of your wall. We can carve into the walls while they are 'green'. We can also carve on the formwork to create designs that stand proud of the wall. You could even have a large boulder protrude from the wall surface for a shelf or small table.

Rammed earth homes fit into the landscape naturally. If your home is made from the earth that it sits on, it's going to just feel right. You can place it into the side of a hill. You can situate it to take advantage of the sun. You can bury the north-facing side underground.
